Abstract

Curious about how to tackle complex challenges in your community or practice? In this fast-paced 45-minute workshop, you’ll learn how to use rapid systems mapping—a practical, hands-on method to understand the systems that govern us, uncover root causes, and identify where change is possible. Developed by Catherine Green (Head of Design at Satellite Applications Catapult), this technique blends tools from the Systems Innovation Network and Systems Mapping Academy, and has been used to shape real-world mission strategies.

We’ll tackle one of the conference’s themes, ‘crafting community’, by exploring the question: Why is Brighton failing its creative community? By the end of the workshop, you’ll leave with a solid understanding of how to run your own rapid systems mapping session, when to use it, and why it’s a powerful tool for UX and human-centred design. Perfect for anyone wanting to start their systems thinking journey and create more meaningful, systemic impact in their work.
