Abstract

Digital rights overviews the rights to online privacy, access to information and freedom of expression. It is an extension of our human rights but in the digital era. Designers (myself included) have a responsibility to design platforms with care and ethics.

UX designers specifically have control of the user journeys and platform interactions that we all experience daily.

If we as designers bring consideration of digital rights into our work, we can effectively change the status quo in how users interact with platforms. We are the experts that can shape service design with a more ethical lens.

This session will overview some tips on how to design with digital rights in mind, quick wins and how we can start ideating for new design principles around this.
