Abstract

What happens to UX in times of recession, tech layoffs, and the rise of AI? As uncertainty shakes the industry, many designers are left questioning their purpose and impact. This provocative session challenges the core myths of our field—that we design user experiences, solve customer problems, and make the world better through design alone. Instead, it reveals the economic, political, and technological forces that truly shape our work.

By uncovering these systemic constraints, we can reframe our roles, shift from designing outputs to enabling outcomes, and focus on creating meaningful value exchanges. Through practical insights and useful tools, this talk offers a new lens on what UX can be—and needs to become—in a world of rapid change. If you’re ready to rethink the foundations of our industry, this is the session for you.
