You are the user: Design your life with human-centered systems thinking

Abstract

As UX designers, we craft experiences for users, customers and clients every day, but when do we take the time and energy to apply that very thinking to improve our own lives? This talk explores the impact that applying it to our very own routines, behaviours and environments can have by channelling a human-centered approach where you are the human in question.

When we’re skilled at crafting user experiences, applying those same principles inward can unlock powerful insights. Whether it’s heuristics, research or feedback loops, these approaches aren’t just for products. They are ways to intentionally design the way we live and navigate complexity. In this context, it’s also important to consider how AI can play a role in helping us reflect, set goals, and design smarter systems for ourselves.

Throughout the talk, I’ll share personal stories, practical techniques and actionable tips to help you design the life you want. No new skills needed, just a fresh perspective.

Lilymae Prescott is a Senior UX Designer, currently at Sky Sports crafting experiences that fans love. Prior to this, she worked with some of the world’s top brands to deliver digitally transformative solutions, including NatWest, Nissan, and M&S. Her academic journey started in philosophy before switching to design, graduating from Loughborough University in User Experience Design in 2021 during the pandemic.

Passionate about sharing her knowledge and inspiring the next generation of designers, Lilymae actively participates in public speaking, panel discussions, insight events, webinars, and mentoring emerging talent.

She was awarded WeAreTheCity’s Rising Star Award in 2024 and named one of the Sport Industry Group’s 30 Under 30 Leaders for 2025.
